Oral Herpes: The Why, Where, When And How ?

Oral Herpes are those small and painful blisters on the lips (herpes lip), tongue (herpes tongue) ,mouth (herpes in the mouth), gums or the skin around the mouth caused by herpes simplex virus Type 1. They are also known as Herpes Labialis (or Herpes Labial). Oral Herpes is an extremely common disease affecting young adults.

The main reason is because the oral herpes virus are highly contagious. They can spread by direct contact or sharing of infected razors, dishes, towels and handkerchiefs.

The oral herpes symptoms include itching, burning, tingling sensations and increased sensitivity. Mild fever can occur at times.

The first signs of oral herpes appear within one to three weeks after infection. You'll see skin lesion or rash around the lips, mouth, gums together with blister filled with yellowish fluid. The lesions of oral herpes usually last 7 to 10 days, then begin to resolve when the virus moves to reside in the nerve cell until triggered for a recurrence.

If infection spread near or around the eye, it could permanently damage the eye and cause blindness. You are advise to take antiviral medication and to wash blister gently with soap and water to minimize spread of infections. And stop all kinds of kissing and cuddling with adults and children especially infants.
