Herpes Simplex - the deadly virus that can't be killed....
What cause herpes? Herpes Simplex (or Herpes Simple) is the name of the virus that cause the blisters and sores on our body notably the
genitals, buttocks, mouth and nose. Hence the name Herpes Simplex Virus or HSV. And there are two types of HSV - Type 1 and Type 2.
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 is also known as cold sores or fever blisters. They often found on the face (facial herpes), wounds on the skin
and to a lesser degree on the genital area. Visually, they are clear, tiny, fluid-filled blisters.
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 mainly affect penis, vagina, cervix, anal (anal herpes) and on the buttock. They do sometimes occur in other
locations below the waist.
For both type of herpes virus, there are two kinds of infections - primary and recurrent. Primary infection appear two to twenty days after
contact with virus. The symptoms for Type 1 virus include itch, burn, tingle and sting. The Type 2 virus include rash, itching, painful sores,
fever, muscle aches and burning sensation during urination. When the crusts eventually falls off, it leaves a slightly red healing skin.
Recurrent herpes simplex infection may recur every few weeks or years, since the virus could not be eliminated after the primary attack. They
actually moves to the nerve cell and remains inactive. Several factors could activate it including fever, menstrual period, surgery trauma and
sun exposes.
Type 1 infections are usually prominent during infancy and children. They get it from close contact with family members and friends who have
the virus. The sores are usually found on the lips, mouth, chin, cheek but they are barely noticeable.
Type 2 infections are mainly on the genital area caused by sexual intercourse with an infected person or simply by touching an unaffected part
of the body immediately after touching a herpes simplex lesion. They are usually found in adults with an active sexual life.
